Turning our passion into support for our local Hospice

Phyllis Tuckwell is the only Hospice Care service for adult patients, and their families, affected by cancer or other serious progressive illnesses (such as heart, lung or neurological disease), serving 550,000 residents across the whole of West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire, both at the Hospice, at the Beacon Centre and in the community.

Every day we support over 250 patients, carers and their families in their own homes, in the community, at the Hospice in Farnham (In-Patient Unit, Day Hospice, out-patient appointments and through Patient & Family Support) and now the Beacon Centre in Guildford (Day & Therapy Unit, out-patient appointments and through Patient & Family Support).

The NHS/Government only covers 20% of our costs, which means we rely heavily on the support and generosity of our local community. All our services are free of charge to our patients and their families, but we need to raise over £15,000 a day to offer such an exceptional standard of clinical care and support.

Our philosophy is to care compassionately for people with a terminal illness, and those closest to them, so that they live their life to the full and their ending is peaceful …because every day is precious.

Every year, millions of people around the world living with a life-limiting illness experience unnecessary pain and distress, either unaware of or unable to access the care they need. We are all hugely fortunate to have such an exceptional palliative care resource available to us free of charge in our community, and we are determined to continue developing our services.

Every day we support over 140 patients and carers in their own homes and at the Hospice:

  • Clinical Nurse Specialists
  • In-Patient Unit
  • Day Hospice
  • Patient and Family Services
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Complementary Therapy

The NHS covers less than 12% of our costs, which is under half the national average for hospices. This means we have to fundraise 88p in every pound the Hospice needs to spend. For that reason, we rely heavily on the support and generosity of the local community. All our services are free of charge, but we need to fundraise over £15,000 a day to offer such an exceptional standard of clinical care and support so income from legacies, sales from our thirteen shops, fundraising events, general donations and corporate support are all essential.
